A physiotherapist and yoga instructor, Berna combines her knowledge and skills to provide a safe and personalised yoga practice for The Alignment Studio clients. Graduating from Hacettepe University in Ankara in 2005 and moving to Melbourne in 2009, she is proud to be the first Turkish physiotherapist to receive equivalence in Australia.
A long-time yoga devotee, Berna’s passion soon transformed into a desire to teach, and she received her 200-hour yoga certification from Moksha Academy of Yoga in 2012. Specialising in vinyasa yoga, her classes are challenging but playful, with each class designed to energise the body and enhance vitality and health.
As a physio, Berna’s aim is to always provide an individualised approach for each client. She believes understanding individual limitation related to musculoskeletal problems is essential to create a safe and effective yoga practice. Whether privately or within a class setting, she provides each client with appropriate adjustments.
Advocating holistic health, Berna has also completed courses in Massage Therapy, Reflexology, Sports and Nutrition and Aromatherapy. She also studied Health Sciences at La Trobe University, and has been a consumer advisor at Alfred Health since 2015.
What people need to know about yoga…
“Every individual is different, and there is no such thing as a ‘perfect’ pose. Don’t compete. Just relax and use each pose as a tool to observe your body and mind.”
Go-to yoga pose…
“Salamba Sarvangasana (shoulder stand). Stimulating the hypothalamus and releasing neurotransmitters (dopamine, serotonin and endorphins), it assists with stress, anxiety, depression and premenstrual symptoms.”
I balance my life by…
“Keeping my priorities straight and setting realistic goals daily. Eight hours sleep, 30 minutes cardio, 10 minutes of meditation and practising yoga are a MUST every day.”
