The Alignment Studio’s resident Kiwi, Rene grew up struggling with back pain on a daily basis. Receiving an incorrect diagnosis of fibromyalgia at the age of 16, she was sent on her way with a script for strong pain killers. It wasn’t until she moved to Melbourne in 2015 that Rene saw the physiotherapist who pointed her in the direction of a drug-free solution—Pilates.

With a scan revealing Rene’s L5 disk protrusion and minor scoliosis, she was firmly instructed to strengthen her core. Amazed at the effect Pilates quickly had on her body and recovery, Rene noticed a huge difference in her pain levels and spinal mobility. This was particularly apparent once she started strengthening the smaller muscles in her glutes, quads and upper body.

A Pilates convert, Rene soon began her teacher training with Breath Education. As well as rehabilitation, she’s passionate about using Pilates for fitness. Her Reformer Pilates classes mix fitness with recovery to not only challenge and change your body, but also challenge and change your mind about what you can achieve.

“Don’t try to push through pain, ask for help. Let us get you to a place where you don’t have to put up with the pain.”
