Meet Physiotherapist, Matt Chisari

Hailing from Mildura, Matt Chisari is a skilled physio with a passion for sports—both playing them (football, specifically) and helping clients avoid injury and excel in their athletic pursuits. Joining The Alignment Studio Team this month, he brings a wide skillset and wealth of experience spanning musculoskeletal and neurological rehab, paediatric physiotherapy and work within the NDIS sector.

Read on to learn about Matt’s idyllic upbringing, path into physiotherapy and the one piece of advice he’d give all clients.

You grew up in the country?

Yes. I was born and raised in Mildura, growing up on a vineyard surrounded by a close-knit community where families worked the land, growing grapes and embracing the country lifestyle.

My big passion was football, and I played throughout regional Victoria, travelling across the state for games and competing in various leagues.

When did you know you wanted to be a physio?

In the final year of my first degree (Bachelor of Science), I decided to apply for the Doctor of Physiotherapy program. I originally wanted to become a cardiovascular physiotherapist to help combat cystic fibrosis, a disease close to my heart.

What’s your favourite part of the job?

The people! I love encouraging and feeling inspired by patients as they take charge of their health journey.

What excites you about working at TAS?

Being part of a highly skilled team of professionals who are not only experts in their field but also quality people. Getting to work amongst the hustle and bustle of the big city is also a buzz. And a huge contrast to my upbringing in the vineyards of Mildura.

What are your areas of special interest?

Sports injuries, return-to-running programs, lower back rehabilitation, paediatric therapy, and disability functional rehab.

What’s the one piece of advice you wish clients listened to?

“Motion is lotion.” Movement is key to keeping joints healthy and preventing stiffness.

Yoga or Pilates?

Pilates.

Do you have a favourite Pilates move?

Dead bug. It’s great for core stability and spinal control.

What would you be doing if you weren’t a physio?

Firefighter. I really love the camaraderie that comes working with a team in high-risk situations and feel it would have been a career I would have really enjoyed.

What do you love doing in your spare time?

Playing football in the country every weekend. I also have a deep appreciation for music. Whether it’s expanding my record collection or picking up my guitar, I enjoy immersing myself in the sounds of classic and modern artists. Music has always been a big part of my life, providing both inspiration and an escape from the demands of work and sport.

What’s your personal approach to wellness?

I follow the 4 pillars of health:

Physical health – Movement and strength.
Mental health – Mindfulness and stress management.
Social health – Community and connection.
Relationships – Maintaining strong personal connections. Making time for friends and family and prioritising relationships keeps life fulfilling.

What’s your secret talent?

Being able to click my fingers abnormally loud.
